Do you have those moments or days when self-doubt gets loud, and your self-confidence plummets?…
Does this seem to happen when you most need to believe in yourself? What happens when your confidence is overruled and you seriously doubt yourself?
If you’re like me, there have been times you wished you could push a button and suddenly feel confident, bold, and courageous, but it just wasn’t happening. My confidence usually gets challenged when I go after a new goal or put myself out there even more in my business.
As a high achiever, you know that your confidence must be top-notch to reach your next-level goals. But it is normal for everyone to experience those self-defeating thoughts that can keep you playing small. So what can you do when you need confidence and embody your most confident self quickly?
1. MOVE YOUR BODY
It is common to stay caught up in your head when self-doubt creeps in. Your mind starts racing and becomes flooded with negative thoughts. You question yourself, and it is hard to snap out of it. When this occurs, you may be unable to turn your mind off. Have you ever wished you could run away from yourself? I’m confident we all have hoped that at one time or another. So instead of trying to think your way through it, escape, or numb yourself, one of the best things you can do is move your body! As your coach, I will never stop talking to you about this. Your body holds so much power, wisdom, and medicine. The challenge is that we have been conditioned to remain in our heads, overthinking, overanalyzing, and trying to figure things out. This is your ego’s way of trying to protect you from danger. But it doesn’t work because you are not in danger. You’re just stepping out of your comfort zone, which, as you know, is where growth occurs.
In addition to being a High-Performance Coach and online entrepreneur, I teach yoga a few days weekly. I combine the yogic principles in my high-performance life and business coaching, making it even more transforming. Utilizing the breath and the body allows you to calm your thoughts, leading to more clarity and the ability to access your intuition.
So, what can you do to move your body? You can: go for a walk, stretch, turn on a fun song and dance, practice yoga, and do some jumping jacks or push-ups. The key is to get yourself MOVING and present with your body so you can get out of your head!
2. BECOME THE OBSERVER OF YOUR THOUGHTS
Have you ever wondered where your thoughts come from and why you have negative thoughts? Did you know it is estimated that we have about 70,000- 90,000 thoughts per day, and most of those thoughts are recurrent! That means we think most of the same thoughts every single day. It’s just that some days we are more aware of them. So if you frequently have negative thoughts filled with self-doubt, they are constantly running in the background, even when you don’t notice them. A thought is just a sentence in your head.
They tend to come from the beliefs stored in your subconscious mind. Did you know that your subconscious mind runs you and your life about 90% of the time? Yeah, that’s right! Something that is not in your conscious awareness is dictating your thoughts, feelings, and actions! When I work with my clients 1:1, we go deep into the mind to identify the core beliefs that are living in the subconscious. The first step is to become a detached witness or observer of your thoughts, so that you can rewrite them to set you up for success.
Have you ever done that? One way to think of it is to imagine the voice or thoughts in your head as a person. Imagine a roommate is living in your head, and that person is constantly speaking to you. Would you allow that person to remain your roommate when they say such negative things to you? Once you have an awareness of your thoughts, we can do the work to shift them. When we change them, we start by replacing the thought with something more neutral or positive, whatever you can get yourself to believe. Then you repeat these new, powerful thoughts to yourself daily until they become habitual. You have the power to choose loving, courageous, confident thoughts. What would you love to say to yourself?
3. VISUALIZE YOURSELF WINNING
We cannot deny the power of visualization. This technique is one I use often, and it works! Here is what you do: go to a quiet space where you will not be interrupted. For 5- 10 minutes, close your eyes and put yourself in the experience of what you want to achieve and, essentially, why you need a boost in confidence. For example, do you need the confidence to speak in front of a group of people? You will then imagine you are already doing it with total confidence. Picture this in your head. Think about the event’s details, your goal, and how you want to experience it. Allow yourself to FEEL the emotions you would feel as if it’s already happening and as if you’re already crushing your goal. Experience the sounds, sights, tastes, smells, colors, and anything you would experience if it were already happening. Put yourself in the total experience. The more you can do this, the quicker you will become confident and manifest the exact experience you want.
Try all three tips and see which one works best for you. I know you have big goals to accomplish, and you are constantly striving for more. Your confidence will continually need to up-level with you, so you’ll need some fantastic tools to keep yourself on track.
